The Institute of Water Technology

Research related to the field of water is mainly carried out at the Institute of Water Technology that is owned by the Water Services Corporation but independently run. Within the Laboratory Division of this Institute testing of water quality is expertly carried out for the Water Services Corporation and for the public sector as well. The site also has information on the tests on water carried out and the various methods employed to do so. A Water Theme Park is also established within the Institute of Water Technology aiding the raising of awareness amongst children and the general public alike.

 

Malta Desalinisation Services

The Malta Desalinisation Service, a subsidiary to the Water Services Corporation, was established to design, build and maintain Reverse Osmosis Plants with the latest technology available whilst ensuring the protection of the environment. This organisation also carries out Laboratory testing for chemical and bacteriological analysis of sea water, brine and potable water.

Malta University Services

The Scientific Division of the Malta University Services carries out terrestrial, coastal and marine surveys which include reports on hydrology amongst other fields. Analytical chemistry testing of water is also part of the offered testing services. Marine toxicology testing is also carried out.

Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics

The Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics carries out research using the latest state-of-art technology such as remote sensing, Environmental Modeling and Geographical Information Systems. In this way it provides daily forecasts of the Euro-Med environment, Models, WAP forecasts. It is also carrying out research in a Sea Watch Project and is involved in Coastal Zone Management.

National Statistics Office

The National Statistics Office is the principal statistics body of the Maltese Islands. Statistical data on water in terms of consumption, usage, production and demand can be accessed from their various publications and frequent news releases which are published on the web.
